I approached Glorified Magnified in early 2022 to ask if they were still using the "Max 70/9 Digital Canine Interface" mentioned on the inside sleeve of their 1994 release "All Wave Super". The device had fallen into disrepair and with the death of Dr. H.P. Sterling and the disappearance of Dr. Nancy Archer, there was now no one alive who knew how to repair it.

I took it upon myself to find an electronics wiz, wizardly enough to understand the strange device. After some searching, I found her. Glenda de Gleep had worked at Bell Labs for years and retired to tinker with various consumer electronics, occasionally running afoul of the FCC, but nonetheless writing scholarly papers on her inventions that gained wide support among her peers. In early 2023, we began work on repairing the interface. During the testing phase, Glenda found something extraordinary- the unit seemed to be able to receive broadcasts of unknown origin. After consulting with several astrophysicists, Glenda formed the hypothesis that the broadcasts were interstellar in nature.

Months of testing and fine-tuning of the apparatus resulted in a clarified signal, which appeared to contain linguistic patterns. Further tests and consultation with experts gave us four discreet messages from an artificial life-form that called itself Sumerius. The messages appeared to be warnings- an impending environmental catastrophe threatened a distant star system. Sumerius was sounding an alarm.

When I told Glorified Magnified the news, they abandoned all other work and began setting the text to music. "The Sounds of Nu Capricore - Volume 1" is the result.
